Greetings, and welcome to the Balanced Growth Show Live! I'm Dr. Travis Parry, your host. Today, I'm excited to delve into a concept that has occupied my thoughts for many years. It's a concept that's played a pivotal role in my journey as an author, speaker, and entrepreneur—one that began with the creation of my book, 'Achieving Balance,' and continued with its sequel, 'Balanced Growth.'
The Journey Begins
In 'Achieving Balance,' I set out to share my insights on balanced time management and making room for our highest priorities in the whirlwind of modern life. This book not only transformed our business but also enabled us to take the message of balance to countless stages across the country and to our cherished clients.
Confronting the Unfinished Business
However, upon completing 'Achieving Balance,' I felt that I'd left readers hanging at the edge of an unexplored frontier. Thus, I penned a chapter on fear—a chapter that would delve into the intricacies of understanding and conquering our fears.
Unmasking Our Fears
In 'Achieving Balance,' we navigated the landscape of fears, from the fear of success to the fear of failure and all the nuanced fears in between. The crucial first step is to identify the specific fear that might be holding us back, restraining our potential.
The Power of Subconscious Transformation
Much of the book and my training have focused on addressing the deep-seated fears and limiting beliefs that lurk in our subconscious minds. Psychologists and personal development gurus have long emphasized the importance of breaking free from these self-imposed constraints. In a recent experience—the Balanced Growth Challenge—I had the privilege of discussing strategies like reframing, forgiveness, and the transformative ABCDE method. These approaches invite us to embark on a profound journey of self-reflection, leading to a fresh perspective on life's challenges.
The Complementary Role of Action
But there's a facet of personal development that harmoniously complements mindset: action. Mindset alone is not the sole driver of change. It's not solely about introspection and changing our thoughts, although these are essential components of the journey. Actions matter just as much in bringing about transformation.
Faith-Based Action: The Missing Link
In the world of psychology, there's often a spirited debate between behaviorists and psychoanalysts about whether thoughts precede actions or vice versa. However, the truth is that both elements hold value, and I believe they can work together to amplify our potential for growth.
Taking Action: A Game-Changer
Taking action—especially what I call "faith-based action"—can be a game-changer. It's about believing in ourselves and our capacity to bring about lasting change. If you're someone who tends to overanalyze and pursue perfection, remember that the pursuit of perfection can sometimes hinder progress.
The Power of One Measurable Action
The key is to ask yourself, regularly and consistently, a simple yet profound question: "What is one measurable action I can take toward my goals and priorities?" Each action, no matter how small, sends a powerful signal to your mind that progress is underway.
A Personal Journey
To illustrate this point, let me share a personal anecdote. As I contemplated writing my first book, 'Achieving Balance,' and later, its sequel, 'Balanced Growth,' I recognized that the opening chapter of 'Balanced Growth' would revolve around the theme of having faith in oneself, believing that God believes in us, and the critical importance of taking massive action toward our goals.
I firmly believe that this action-oriented mindset is the missing secret to success. While thoughts are undeniably important, they alone won't suffice. You need action to rewire your brain positively and set yourself on the path to achievement.
Even if you encounter initial setbacks or take steps backward, taking action keeps you moving forward and opens doors to new opportunities. As you take action and courageously position yourself in the driver's seat of your life, you'll naturally attract the people and resources needed to propel you toward your goals.
Thank you for joining me today on this insightful journey of self-discovery and personal growth. Together, let's unlock the power of balanced thinking and proactive action to bring about the change we desire in our lives.
